Simulating Brittle Fracture with Material Points

چکیده

Large-scale topological changes play a key role in capturing the fine debris of fracturing virtual brittle material. Real-world, tough fractures have dynamic branching behaviour but numerical simulation this phenomena is notoriously challenging. In order to robustly capture these visual characteristics, we simulate fracture by combining elastodynamic continuum mechanical models with rigid-body methods: A damage mechanics (CDM) problem solved, following impact, crack propagation tracking field. We combine result elastostatic model novel technique approximate cracks as non-manifold mid-surface, which enables accurate and robust modelling material fragment volumes compliment fast-and-rigid shatter effects. For enhanced realism, add detail, incorporating particle damage-time inform localised perturbation surface artistic control. evaluate our method numerous examples comparisons, showing that it produces breadth effects low resolution require much less time compared fully simulations.

Simulating Rigid Body Fracture with Surface Meshes (Supplemental Material)

The indirect boundary integral formulation is inspired by the potential theory which is usually applied to Laplace’s equation (scalar or vector). Considering the similarity between Laplace and the similarly elliptic linear elastostatic problem, we apply this mathematical tool to stress analysis. This forms a crucial ingredient in our meshbased fracture evolution algorithm. Here we briefly intro...

Brittle Bone Fracture Risk with Transverse Isotropy

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heritable bone fragility disorder characterized by skeletal deformity and “brittle” bones. This fragility is believed to stem from a combination of bone mass deficiency and compromised bone material properties [1-3]. Poor bone quality poses major orthopaedic and rehabilitation challenges. Risk of fracture is a major consideration when prescribing activity restr...

Simulating circuits with impasse points

In this paper circuits with impasse points, i.e. with jumps in their configuration space will be analyzed. These non-regularized circuits exhibit a fold in their configuration space, which can lead to difficulties during the simulation with standard circuit simulators like SPICE. The former developed geometric approach to simulate these circuits without regularization will be extended by a deta...

Fractal Dimension of Brittle Fracture

Using a worldwide catalog of earthquakes we analyze the distribution of distances between pairs of earthquake hypocenters to determine the spatial fractal dimension 6 of an earthquake fracture. As the time span of the catalog increases, 8 asymptotically reaches the value 2.1-2.2 for shallow earthquakes. Approximately the same asymptotic value of dimension is obtained for a catalog of earthquake...
